Dieter van den Broeck (The Hague) and Remco Schenkhuizen (Geleen) were the starting goalies in this Friday evening match. Geleen started very well. Lambert Keulen tallied the first after only 47 seconds of play. Assists went to goalie Schenkhuizen and Koen Hermans. Geleen followed this up with a second at 10.28 again scored by Lambert Keulen. On this powerplay goal he was assisted by Jesse Raekelboom. After a combination with Jimmy Raats and Bas de Haan Aaron Lewis put the home team on the scoreboard, 1-2 after 13.47. Then both goaltenders got hot and after fourty minutes the score was still 1-2.
In the third The Hague got a headstart. Russian defenseman Matvey Denisov rifled a slapshot at the Geleen cage. Todd Mallette put the puck home: 2-2 at 41.02. Then Matvey Denisov netted his own rebound for 3-2 at 42.40 (assists Aaron Lewis and Todd Mallette). Then captain Manitas Demelinne (skating backward)feeded Jeroen Admiraal, who scored at 49.43, 4-2. Michel Tuyt also received an assist. With still 2.52 to play Geleen's coach Peter Bol put on an extra attacker for goaltender Remco Schenkhuizen. Eaters generated a tremendous pressure on goalie Van den Broeck. But he was nopt to be beaten again. And with some icings HIJS tried to break the flow of play. Then the puck slid into HIJS's attacking zone. Todd Mallette went after the puck like hell. He gained control over it and easily put the puck in the empty net. 5-2 at 58.14 (assist Aaron Lewis and Thomas Kosatka). Giving the home team hope to still finish second in this competition and advance to the Cup Play Offs.
