1 Pet 4:16 But if [one is ill-treated and suffers] as a Christian [which he is contemptuously called], let him not be ashamed, but give glory to God that he is [deemed worthy to suffer] in this name.

Ps 69:15 Let not the floodwaters overflow {and} overwhelm me, neither let the deep swallow me up nor the [dug] pit [with water perhaps in the bottom] close its mouth over me.
Ps 69:16 Hear {and} answer me, O Lord, for Your loving-kindness is sweet {and} comforting; according to Your plenteous tender mercy {and} steadfast love turn to me.
Ps 69:17 Hide not Your face from Your servant, for I am in distress; O answer me speedily!
Ps 69:18 Draw close to me and redeem me; ransom {and} set me free because of my enemies [lest they glory in my prolonged distress]!

Ps 31:1 IN YOU, O Lord, do I put my trust {and} seek refuge; let me never be put to shame {or} [have my hope in You] disappointed; deliver me in Your righteousness!
Ps 31:2 Bow down Your ear to me, deliver me speedily! Be my Rock of refuge, a strong Fortress to save me!
Ps 31:3 Yes, You are my Rock and my Fortress; therefore for Your name's sake lead me and guide me.
Ps 31:4 Draw me out of the net that they have laid secretly for me, for You are my Strength {and} my Stronghold.
Ps 31:5 Into Your hands I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord, the God of truth {and} faithfulness.
Ps 31:7 I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy {and} steadfast love, because You have seen my affliction, You have taken note of my life's distresses,
Ps 31:8 And You have not given me into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a broad place.

Ps 18:29 For by You I can run through a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall.
Ps 18:30 As for God, His way is perfect! The word of the Lord is tested {and} tried; He is a shield to all those who take refuge {and} put their trust in Him.
Ps 18:32 The God who girds me with strength and makes my way perfect?

Ps 43:5 Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me {and} be disquieted within me? Hope in God {and} wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, Who is the help of my [sad] countenance, and my God.

Ps 44:17 All this is come upon us, yet have we not forgotten You, neither have we been false to Your covenant [which You made with our fathers].

James 1:12 Blessed (happy, to be envied) is the man who is patient under trial {and} stands up under temptation, for when he has stood the test {and} been approved, he will receive [the victor's] crown of life which God has promised to those who love Him.

How to face serious illness

Isaiah 53:3 He was despised and rejected {and} forsaken by men, a Man of sorrows {and} pains, and acquainted with grief {and} sickness; and like One from Whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth {or} have any esteem for Him.
Isaiah 53:4 Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows {and} pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy].
Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt {and} iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace {and} well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed {and} made whole.

Matt 8:17
And thus He fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, He Himself took [in order to carry away] our weaknesses {and} infirmities and bore away our diseases.

James 5:14
Is anyone among you sick? He should call in the church elders (the spiritual guides). And they should pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Lord's name.
James 5:15 And the prayer [that is] of faith will save him who is sick, and the Lord will restore him; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

Isaiah 26:3 You will guard him {and} keep him in perfect {and} constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, {and} hopes confidently in You.
Isaiah 26:4 So trust in the Lord (commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever; for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].

Jer 17:14 Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for You are my praise.

2 Cor 4:15 For all [these] things are [taking place] for your sake, so that the more grace (divine favor and spiritual blessing) extends to more and more people {and} multiplies through the many, the more thanksgiving may increase [and redound] to the glory of God.
2 Cor 4:16 Therefore we do not become discouraged (utterly spiritless, exhausted, and wearied out through fear). Though our outer man is [progressively] decaying {and} wasting away, yet our inner self is being [progressively] renewed day after day.
2 Cor 4:17 For our light, momentary affliction (this slight distress of the passing hour) is ever more and more abundantly preparing {and} producing {and} achieving for us an everlasting weight of glory [beyond all measure, excessively surpassing all comparisons and all calculations, a vast and transcendent glory and blessedness never to cease!],
2 Cor 4:18 Since we consider {and} look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are visible are temporal (brief and fleeting), but the things that are invisible are deathless {and} everlasting.

Ps 77:10
And I say, This [apparent desertion of Israel by God] is my appointed lot {and} trial, but I will recall the years of the right hand of the Most High [in loving-kindness extended toward us], for this is my grief, that the right hand of the Most High changes.
Ps 77:11 I will [earnestly] recall the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will [earnestly] remember the wonders [You performed for our fathers] of old.
Ps 77:12 I will meditate also upon all Your works and consider all Your [mighty] deeds.
Ps 77:13 Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary [in holiness, away from sin and guilt]. Who is a great God like our God?
Ps 77:14 You are the God Who does wonders; You have demonstrated Your power among the peoples.

Ps 23:4 Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear {or} dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me.

Matt 9:20 And behold, a woman who had suffered from a flow of blood for twelve years came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His garment;
Matt 9:21 For she kept saying to herself, If I only touch His garment, I shall be restored to health.
Matt 9:22 Jesus turned around and, seeing her, He said, Take courage, daughter! Your faith has made you well. And at once the woman was restored to health.

Ps 48:14 For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide [even] until death.

Ps 77:6 I call to remembrance my song in the night; with my heart I meditate and my spirit searches diligently:

Ps 49:15 But God will redeem me from the power of Sheol (the place of the dead); for He will receive me. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

Ps 103:2 Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul, and forget not [one of] all His benefits--
Ps 103:3 Who forgives [every one of] all your iniquities, Who heals [each one of] all your diseases,

2 Kin 20:1 IN THOSE days Hezekiah became deadly ill. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came and said to him, Thus says the Lord: Set your house in order, for you shall die; you shall not recover.
2 Kin 20:2 Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, saying,
2 Kin 20:3 I beseech You, O Lord, [earnestly] remember now how I have walked before You in faithfulness {and} truth and with a whole heart [entirely devoted to You] and have done what is good in Your sight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
2 Kin 20:4 Before Isaiah had gone out of the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him:
2 Kin 20:5 Turn back and tell Hezekiah, the leader of My people, Thus says the Lord, the God of David your [forefather]: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.
2 Kin 20:6 I will add to your life fifteen years and deliver you and this city [Jerusalem] out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for My own sake and for My servant David's sake.
2 Kin 20:7 And Isaiah said, Bring a cake of figs. Let them lay it on the burning inflammation, that he may recover.

1 Pet 2:24 He personally bore our sins in His [own] body on the tree [as on an altar and offered Himself on it], that we might die (cease to exist) to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.

2 Cor 5:1 FOR WE know that if the tent which is our earthly home is destroyed (dissolved), we have from God a building, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Ps 104:33 I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have any being.
Ps 104:34 May my meditation be sweet to Him; as for me, I will rejoice in the Lord.

Ps 146:2 While I live will I praise the Lord; I will sing praises to my God while I have any being.

Acts 3:2 [When] a certain man crippled from his birth was being carried along, who was laid each day at that gate of the temple [which is] called Beautiful, so that he might beg for charitable gifts from those who entered the temple.
Acts 3:3 So when he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked them to give him a gift.
Acts 3:4 And Peter directed his gaze intently at him, and so did John, and said, Look at us!
Acts 3:5 And [the man] paid attention to them, expecting that he was going to get something from them.
Acts 3:6 But Peter said, Silver and gold (money) I do not have; but what I do have, that I give to you: in [the use of] the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk!
Acts 3:7 Then he took hold of the man's right hand with a firm grip and raised him up. And at once his feet and ankle bones became strong {and} steady,
Acts 3:8 And leaping forth he stood and began to walk, and he went into the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.

How to handle suffering

1 Pet 4:1 SO, SINCE Christ suffered in the flesh {for us, for you}, arm yourselves with the same thought {and} purpose [patiently to suffer rather than fail to please God]. For whoever has suffered in the flesh [having the mind of Christ] is done with [intentional] sin [has stopped pleasing himself and the world, and pleases God],
1 Pet 4:2 So that he can no longer spend the rest of his natural life living by [his] human appetites {and} desires, but [he lives] for what God wills.

1 Pet 4:12
Beloved, do not be amazed {and} bewildered at the fiery ordeal which is taking place to test your quality, as though something strange (unusual and alien to you and your position) were befalling you.
1 Pet 4:13 But insofar as you are sharing Christ's sufferings, rejoice, so that when His glory [full of radiance and splendor] is revealed, you may also rejoice with triumph [exultantly].
1 Pet 4:14 If you are censured {and} suffer abuse [because you bear] the name of Christ, blessed [are you--happy, fortunate, to be envied, with life-joy, and satisfaction in God's favor and salvation, regardless of your outward condition], because the Spirit of glory, the Spirit of God, is resting upon you. {On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.}
1 Pet 4:15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or any sort of criminal, or as a mischief-maker (a meddler) in the affairs of others [infringing on their rights].
1 Pet 4:16 But if [one is ill-treated and suffers] as a Christian [which he is contemptuously called], let him not be ashamed, but give glory to God that he is [deemed worthy to suffer] in this name.
1 Pet 4:17 For the time [has arrived] for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will [be] the end of those who do not respect {or} believe {or} obey the good news (the Gospel) of God?

Ps 34:17 When the {righteous} cry for help, the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their distress {and} troubles.
Ps 34:18 The Lord is close to those who are of a broken heart and saves such as are crushed with sorrow for sin {and} are humbly {and} thoroughly penitent.
Ps 34:19 Many evils confront the [consistently] righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.

Heb 12:6 For the Lord corrects {and} disciplines everyone whom He loves, and He punishes, even scourges, every son whom He accepts {and} welcomes to His heart {and} cherishes.
Heb 12:7 You must submit to {and} endure [correction] for discipline; God is dealing with you as with sons. For what son is there whom his father does not [thus] train {and} correct {and} discipline?
Heb 12:8 Now if you are exempt from correction {and} left without discipline in which all [of God's children] share, then you are illegitimate offspring {and} not true sons [at all].
Heb 12:11 For the time being no discipline brings joy, but seems grievous {and} painful; but afterwards it yields a peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it [a harvest of fruit which consists in righteousness--in conformity to God's will in purpose, thought, and action, resulting in right living and right standing with God].
Heb 12:12 So then, brace up {and} reinvigorate {and} set right your slackened {and} weakened {and} drooping hands and strengthen your feeble {and} palsied {and} tottering knees,
Heb 12:13 And cut through {and} make firm {and} plain {and} smooth, straight paths for your feet [yes, make them safe and upright and happy paths that go in the right direction], so that the lame {and} halting [limbs] may not be put out of joint, but rather may be cured.

2 Cor 4:8 We are hedged in (pressed) on every side [troubled and oppressed in every way], but not cramped {or} crushed; we suffer embarrassments {and} are perplexed {and} unable to find a way out, but not driven to despair;
2 Cor 4:9 We are pursued (persecuted and hard driven), but not deserted [to stand alone]; we are struck down to the ground, but never struck out {and} destroyed;
2 Cor 4:10 Always carrying about in the body the liability {and} exposure to the same putting to death that {the Lord} Jesus suffered, so that the [resurrection] life of Jesus also may be shown forth by {and} in our bodies.
2 Cor 4:17 For our light, momentary affliction (this slight distress of the passing hour) is ever more and more abundantly preparing {and} producing {and} achieving for us an everlasting weight of glory [beyond all measure, excessively surpassing all comparisons and all calculations, a vast and transcendent glory and blessedness never to cease!],
2 Cor 4:18 Since we consider {and} look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are visible are temporal (brief and fleeting), but th

1 Pet 5:10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace [Who imparts all blessing and favor], Who has called you to His [own] eternal glory in Christ {Jesus,} will Himself complete {and} make you what you ought to be, establish {and} ground you securely, and strengthen, and settle you.
1 Pet 5:11 To Him be the dominion (power, authority, rule) forever and ever. Amen (so be it).

1 Pet 2:20 [After all] what kind of glory [is there in it] if, when you do wrong and are punished for it, you take it patiently? But if you bear patiently with suffering [which results] when you do right {and} that is undeserved, it is acceptable {and} pleasing to God.
1 Pet 2:21 For even to this were you called [it is inseparable from your vocation]. For Christ also suffered for you, leaving you [His personal] example, so that you should follow in His footsteps.

Rom 8:17 And if we are [His] children, then we are [His] heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ [sharing His inheritance with Him]; only we must share His suffering if we are to share His glory.
Rom 8:18 [But what of that?] For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (this present life) are not worth being compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us {and} in us {and} for us {and} conferred on us!

2 Tim 2:3 Take [with me] your share of the hardships {and} suffering [which you are called to endure] as a good (first-class) soldier of Christ Jesus.

Heb 2:9 But we are able to see Jesus, Who was ranked lower than the angels for a little while, crowned with glory and honor because of His having suffered death, in order that by the grace (unmerited favor) of God [to us sinners] He might experience death for every individual person.
Heb 2:10 For it was an act worthy [of God] {and} fitting [to the divine nature] that He, for Whose sake and by Whom all things have their existence, in bringing many sons into glory, should make the Pioneer of their salvation perfect [should bring to maturity the human experience necessary to be perfectly equipped for His office as High Priest] through suffering.

Heb 5:8 Although He was a Son, He learned [active, special] obedience through what He suffered
Heb 5:9 And, [His completed experience] making Him perfectly [equipped], He became the Author {and} Source of eternal salvation to all those who give heed {and} obey Him,

James 1:12 Blessed (happy, to be envied) is the man who is patient under trial {and} stands up under temptation, for when he has stood the test {and} been approved, he will receive [the victor's] crown of life which God has promised to those who love Him.

Phil 4:12 I know how to be abased {and} live humbly in straitened circumstances, and I know also how to enjoy plenty {and} live in abundance. I have learned in any and all circumstances the secret of facing every situation, whether well-fed or going hungry, having a sufficiency {and} enough to spare or going without {and} being in want.
Phil 4:13 I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency].

2 Tim 1:8 Do not blush {or} be ashamed then, to testify to {and} for our Lord, nor of me, a prisoner for His sake, but [with me] take your share of the suffering [to which the preaching] of the Gospel [may expose you, and do it] in the power of God.
2 Tim 1:12 And this is why I am suffering as I do. Still I am not ashamed, for I know (perceive, have knowledge of, and am acquainted with) Him Whom I have believed (adhered to and trusted in and relied on), and I am [positively] persuaded that He is able to guard {and} keep that which has been entrusted to me {and} which I have committed [to Him] until that day.

2 Tim 2:11 The saying is sure {and} worthy of confidence: If we have died with Him, we shall also live with Him.
2 Tim 2:12 If we endure, we shall also reign with Him. If we deny {and} disown {and} reject Him, He will also deny {and} disown {and} reject us.

James 5:10 [As] an example of suffering and ill-treatment together with patience, brethren, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord [as His messengers].
James 5:11 You know how we call those blessed (happy) who were steadfast [who endured]. You have heard of the endurance of Job, and you have seen the Lord's [purpose and how He richly blessed him in the] end, inasmuch as the Lord is full of pity {and} compassion {and} tenderness and mercy.

1 Pet 4:19 Therefore, those who are ill-treated {and} suffer in accordance with God's will must do right and commit their souls [in charge as a deposit] to the One Who created [them] and will never fail [them].

Hoe to survive financial problems

1 Tim 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all evils; it is through this craving that some have been led astray {and} have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves through with many acute [mental] pangs.
1 Tim 6:11 But as for you, O man of God, flee from all these things; aim at {and} pursue righteousness (right standing with God and true goodness), godliness (which is the loving fear of God and being Christlike), faith, love, steadfastness (patience), and gentleness of heart.

Phil 4:11 Not that I am implying that I was in any personal want, for I have learned how to be content (satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or disquieted) in whatever state I am.

Matt 6:31 Therefore do not worry {and} be anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? or, What are we going to have to drink? or, What are we going to have to wear?
Matt 6:32 For the Gentiles (heathen) wish for {and} crave {and} diligently seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows well that you need them all.
Matt 6:33 But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.
Matt 6:34 So do not worry {or} be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries {and} anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble.

Ps 37:3 Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, {and} truly you shall be fed.
Ps 37:4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires {and} secret petitions of your heart.

1 Tim 6:17 As for the rich in this world, charge them not to be proud {and} arrogant {and} contemptuous of others, nor to set their hopes on uncertain riches, but on God, Who richly {and} ceaselessly provides us with everything for [our] enjoyment.
1 Tim 6:18 [Charge them] to do good, to be rich in good works, to be liberal {and} generous of heart, ready to share [with others],
1 Tim 6:19 In this way laying up for themselves [the riches that endure forever as] a good foundation for the future, so that they may grasp that which is life indeed.

Ps 34:6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
Ps 34:7 The Angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him [who revere and worship Him with awe] and each of them He delivers.

How to overcome dispair

2 Cor 4:9 We are pursued (persecuted and hard driven), but not deserted [to stand alone]; we are struck down to the ground, but never struck out {and} destroyed;

Heb 13:5 Let your character {or} moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you {nor} give you up {nor} leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless {nor} forsake {nor} let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]

Ps 30:8 I cried to You, O Lord, and to the Lord I made supplication.
Ps 30:9 What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit (the grave)? Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your truth {and} faithfulness to men?

Ps 30:11 You have turned my mourning into dancing for me; You have put off my sackcloth and girded me with gladness,
Ps 30:12 To the end that my tongue {and} my heart {and} everything glorious within me may sing praise to You and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.

Phil 4:8 For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence {and} is honorable {and} seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely {and} lovable, whatever is kind {and} winsome {and} gracious, if there is any virtue {and} excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on {and} weigh {and} take account of these things [fix your minds on them].

Phil 4:12 I know how to be abased {and} live humbly in straitened circumstances, and I know also how to enjoy plenty {and} live in abundance. How to maintain hope

Lam 3:22
It is because of the Lord's mercy {and} loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not.
Lam 3:23 They are new every morning; great {and} abundant is Your stability {and} faithfulness.
Lam 3:24 The Lord is my portion {or} share, says my living being (my inner self); therefore will I hope in Him {and} wait expectantly for Him.

Rom 5:1 THEREFORE, SINCE we are justified (acquitted, declared righteous, and given a right standing with God) through faith, let us [grasp the fact that we] have [the peace of reconciliation to hold and to enjoy] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
Rom 5:2 Through Him also we have [our] access (entrance, introduction) by faith into this grace (state of God's favor) in which we [firmly and safely] stand. And let us rejoice {and} exult in our hope of experiencing {and} enjoying the glory of God.
Rom 5:3 Moreover [let us also be full of joy now!] let us exult {and} triumph in our troubles {and} rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that pressure {and} affliction {and} hardship produce patient {and} unswerving endurance.
Rom 5:4 And endurance (fortitude) develops maturity of character (approved faith and tried integrity). And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation.
Rom 5:5 Such hope never disappoints {or} deludes {or} shames us, for God's love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.

Rom 15:13 May the God of your hope so fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound {and} be overflowing (bubbling over) with hope.

1 Thess 5:8 But we belong to the day; therefore, let us be sober and put on the breastplate (corslet) of faith and love and for a helmet the hope of salvation.
1 Thess 5:9 For God has not appointed us to [incur His] wrath [He did not select us to condemn us], but [that we might] obtain [His] salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)

Matt 6:34 So do not worry {or} be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries {and} anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble.

Heb 13:6 So we take comfort {and} are encouraged {and} confidently {and} boldly say, The Lord is my Helper; I will not be seized with alarm [I will not fear or dread or be terrified]. What can man do to me?

Ps 33:18 Behold, the Lord's eye is upon those who fear Him [who revere and worship Him with awe], who wait for Him {and} hope in His mercy {and} loving-kindness,
Ps 33:19 To deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
Ps 33:20 Our inner selves wait [earnestly] for the Lord; He is our Help and our Shield.
Ps 33:21 For in Him does our heart rejoice, because we have trusted (relied on and been confident) in His holy name.
Ps 33:22 Let Your mercy {and} loving-kindness, O Lord, be upon us, in proportion to our waiting {and} hoping for You.

Ps 55:22 Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail).

Ps 65:5 By fearful {and} glorious things [that terrify the wicked but make the godly sing praises] do You answer us in righteousness (rightness and justice), O God of our salvation, You Who are the confidence and hope of all the ends of the earth and of those far off on the seas;
Ps 65:6 Who by [Your] might have founded the mountains, being girded with power,
Ps 65:7 Who still the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the tumult of the peoples,

Ps 27:13 [What, what would have become of me] had I not believed that I would see the Lord's goodness in the land of the living!
Ps 27:14 Wait {and} hope for {and} expect the Lord; be brave {and} of good courage and let your heart be stout {and} enduring. Yes, wait for {and} hope for {and} expect the Lord.

Ps 119:114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.

Isaiah 40:31 But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change {and} renew their strength {and} power; they shall lift their wings {and} mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint {or} become tired.

Phil 4:13 I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency].

1 Cor 9:10 Or does He speak certainly {and} entirely for our sakes? [Assuredly] it is written for our sakes, because the plowman ought to plow in hope, and the thresher ought to thresh in expectation of partaking of the harvest.

Heb 6:15 And so it was that he [Abraham], having waited long {and} endured patiently, realized {and} obtained [in the birth of Isaac as a pledge of what was to come] what God had promised him.
Heb 6:18 This was so that, by two unchangeable things [His promise and His oath] in which it is impossible for God ever to prove false {or} deceive us, we who have fled [to Him] for refuge might have mighty indwelling strength {and} strong encouragement to grasp {and} hold fast the hope appointed for us {and} set before [us].
Heb 6:19 [Now] we have this [hope] as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul [it cannot slip and it cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it--a hope] that reaches farther {and} enters into [the very certainty of the Presence] within the veil,
Heb 6:20 Where Jesus has entered in for us [in advance], a Forerunner having become a High Priest forever after the order (with the rank) of Melchizedek.

Rom 8:25 But if we hope for what is still unseen by us, we wait for it with patience {and} composure.
Rom 8:31 What then shall we say to [all] this? If God is for us, who [can be] against us? [Who can be our foe, if God is on our side?]
Rom 8:37 Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors {and} gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us.
Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded beyond doubt (am sure) that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things impending {and} threatening nor things to come, nor powers,
Rom 8:39 Nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Jer 17:17 Be not a terror to me; You are my refuge {and} my hope in the day of evil.

How to enter into His rest

Ps 37:5 Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass.
Ps 37:6 And He will make your uprightness {and} right standing with God go forth as the light, and your justice {and} right as [the shining sun of] the noonday.
Ps 37:7 Be still {and} rest in the Lord; wait for Him {and} patiently lean yourself upon Him; fret not yourself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass.

Phil 4:11 Not that I am implying that I was in any personal want, for I have learned how to be content (satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or disquieted) in whatever state I am.
Phil 4:19 And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Matt 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden {and} overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]
Matt 11:29
Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.
Matt 11:30 For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good--not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light {and} easy to be borne.

Heb 4:9 So then, there is still awaiting a full {and} complete Sabbath-rest reserved for the [true] people of God;
Heb 4:11 Let us therefore be zealous {and} exert ourselves {and} strive diligently to enter that rest [of God, to know and experience it for ourselves], that no one may fall {or} perish by the same kind of unbelief {and} disobedience [into which those in the wilderness fell].
Heb 4:14 Inasmuch then as we have a great High Priest Who has [already] ascended {and} passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession [of faith in Him].

Isaiah 30:15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: In returning [to Me] and resting [in Me] you shall be saved; in quietness and in [trusting] confidence shall be your strength. But you would not,
Isaiah 30:18 And therefore the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you {and} show loving-kindness to you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him, who expect {and} look {and} long for Him [for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship]!

Ps 121:5 The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand [the side not carrying a shield].
Ps 121:6 The sun shall not smite you by day, nor the moon by night.

What to do when you are facing old age

Ps 92:12 The [uncompromisingly] righteous shall flourish like the palm tree [be long-lived, stately, upright, useful, and fruitful]; they shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon [majestic, stable, durable, and incorruptible].
Ps 92:13 Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God.
Ps 92:14 [Growing in grace] they shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap [of spiritual vitality] and [rich in the] verdure [of trust, love, and contentment].

Ps 103:5 Who satisfies your mouth [your necessity and desire at your personal age and situation] with good so that your youth, renewed, is like the eagle's [strong, overcoming, soaring]!

Prov 9:11 For by me [Wisdom from God] your days shall be multiplied, and the years of your life shall be increased.

Titus 2:2 Urge the older men to be temperate, venerable (serious), sensible, self-controlled, and sound in the faith, in the love, and in the steadfastness {and} patience [of Christ].
Titus 2:3 Bid the older women similarly to be reverent {and} devout in their deportment as becomes those engaged in sacred service, not slanderers or slaves to drink. They are to give good counsel {and} be teachers of what is right {and} noble,
Titus 2:4 So that they will wisely train the young women to be sane and sober of mind (temperate, disciplined) and to love their husbands and their children,

Ps 90:10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten (seventy years)--or even, if by reason of strength, fourscore years (eighty years); yet is their pride [in additional years] only labor and sorrow, for it is soon gone, and we fly away.
Ps 90:12 So teach us to number our days, that we may get us a heart of wisdom.
Ps 90:14 O satisfy us with Your mercy {and} loving-kindness in the morning [now, before we are older], that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Rom 14:7 None of us lives to himself [but to the Lord], and none of us dies to himself [but to the Lord, for]
Rom 14:8 If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or we die, we belong to the Lord.

Ps 31:14 But I trusted in, relied on, {and} was confident in You, O Lord; I said, You are my God.
Ps 31:15 My times are in Your hands; deliver me from the hands of my foes and those who pursue me {and} persecute me.

How to find contentment

Isaiah 26:3a You will guard him {and} keep him in perfect {and} constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You,
Isaiah 26:4 So trust in the Lord (commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever; for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].

Heb 13:6 So we take comfort {and} are encouraged {and} confidently {and} boldly say, The Lord is my Helper; I will not be seized with alarm [I will not fear or dread or be terrified]. What can man do to me?

Phil 4:6 Do not fret {or} have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance {and} in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.
Phil 4:7 And God's peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison {and} mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Phil 4:11 Not that I am implying that I was in any personal want, for I have learned how to be content (satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or disquieted) in whatever state I am.

Rom 8:28 We are assured {and} know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together {and} are [fitting into a plan] for good to {and} for those who love God and are called according to [His] design {and} purpose.

Is 54:13 And all your [spiritual] children shall be disciples [taught by the Lord and obedient to His will], and great shall be the peace {and} undisturbed composure of your children.
Is 54:17 But no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall show to be in the wrong. This [peace, righteousness, security, triumph over opposition] is the heritage of the servants of the Lord [those in whom the ideal Servant of the Lord is reproduced]; this is the righteousness {or} the vindication which they obtain from Me [this is that which I impart to them as their justification], says the Lord.

Rom 8:1 THEREFORE, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, {who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.}
Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has freed me from the law of sin and of death.
Rom 8:5 For those who are according to the flesh {and} are controlled by its unholy desires set their minds on {and} pursue those things which gratify the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit {and} are controlled by the desires of the Spirit set their minds on {and} seek those things which gratify the [Holy] Spirit.
Rom 8:6 Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever].

Rom 8:16 The Spirit Himself [thus] testifies together with our own spirit, [assuring us] that we are children of God.
Rom 8:17 And if we are [His] children, then we are [His] heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ [sharing His inheritance with Him]; only we must share His suffering if we are to share His glory.

Ps 145:16 You open Your hand and satisfy every living thing with favor.

1 Cor 9:27 But [like a boxer] I buffet my body [handle it roughly, discipline it by hardships] and subdue it, for fear that after proclaiming to others the Gospel {and} things pertaining to it, I myself should become unfit [not stand the test, be unapproved and rejected as a counterfeit].

1 Tim 6:6 [And it is, indeed, a source of immense profit, for] godliness accompanied with contentment (that contentment which is a sense of inward sufficiency) is great {and} abundant gain.
1 Tim 6:7 For we brought nothing into the world, and {obviously} we cannot take anything out of the world;
1 Tim 6:8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we shall be content (satisfied).

Ps 3:3 But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.
Ps 3:4 With my voice I cry to the Lord, and He hears and answers me out of His holy hill. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!
Ps 3:5 I lay down and slept; I wakened again, for the Lord sustains me.
Ps 3:6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me round about.

Heb 4:3 For we who have believed (adhered to and trusted in and relied on God) do enter that rest, in accordance with His declaration that those [who did not believe] should not enter when He said, As I swore in My wrath, They shall not enter My rest; and this He said although [His] works had been completed {and} prepared [and waiting for all who would believe] from the foundation of the world.

Ps 23:1 THE LORD is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack.

Is 58:11 And the Lord shall guide you continually and satisfy you in drought {and} in dry places and make strong your bones. And you shall be like a watered garden and like a spring of water whose waters fail not.

Ps 121:2 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.
Ps 121:3 He will not allow your foot to slip {or} to be moved; He Who keeps you will not slumber.

Ps 121:8 The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.

Gen 18:25b Shall not the Judge of all the earth execute judgment {and} do righteously?

2 Cor 3:5 Not that we are fit (qualified and sufficient in ability) of ourselves to form personal judgments {or} to claim {or} count anything as coming from us, but our power {and} ability {and} sufficiency are from God.
