The making of the painting

WACHT HOET VAREN SAL

(Await what's coming)

can be seen

below

To start of a sketch is drawn

over a warm underground,

light and dark parts are painted

to create basic shapes.

After setting up the model

it was time for housedetails,

like  the stones and the

face-decorations.

As I had no definite layout

in mind I started trying

different things.

Some houses appeared...

and some were demolished

again. I also decided to

drown the guy in the boat.

(no corps left)

The lamp I found a nice touch.

A rope was hung up and

the shape of the faces

were made more flowing.

Red shutters on the windows

a hook of the fallen lamp.

The curtain in the window.

In 2009 I took off the varnish

and redid the window

and the light.

Working on the face.

july and sept.

the ear was too high!

redone in october 2008
