The Elison family info from Robert Carmichael

Working backwards from the birth of Sara Vander SCHULP in 1654, we could take a guess her parents, Maria ELISON and Jacob Vander SCHULP were then about 21-25 years, and therefore born between 1630-1635.

This rules out Theophilus ELISON (1609-1676 - 23 jears old in 1632 !), as he married Euria VICTORIJN, a widow after the death of her husband in 1642. Theophilus was 33 years old at that time.
His daughter Mary ELISON was married, according to his will to Peter PRIDE? of Norwich, England.
Theophilus also had a stepdaughter named Sarah.

However, there was a contingent of these Anglo/Dutch ELISONS in Amsterdam at that time, so I will present herewith a potted version of what I have.

Johannes ELISON Senior (1581-1639), in his Will of 1634 indicates when appointing Johannes ELISON (Junior) and Theophilus ELISON as his Executors, the remainder of his children were then minors.
These were Jacob ELISON, Ann ELISON, Francois ELISON and Josina ELISON we have to guess at their dates of birth, as their baptisms are not on record in Norwich, which I found rather surprising.

Johannes ELISON (Junior) married Josina DIRCK BAKKERS on the 29-03-1628 and they remained childless.
Josina was the sister-in-law of Jan VICTORIJN, a well known Lawyer in Amsterdam and associate and confidant of the Poet, VONDEL.
Josina's sister was Aeffgie DIRCK BAKKERS.
Johannes became a Deacon of the Dutch Church in Amsterdam between 1645/50.

His marriage documents are dated 29-03-1628. He was living at the Deventer Hautmarket, and accompanied by his Master Anthonisz AERTZ.
Josina was 21 years and living on the Delft Bierkay (Bierkade). She was accompanied by her sister Aeffgie.

On the 17-3-1635 they appeared before the Amsterdam Notary, Laurens LAMBERTI, and repealed their marriage testament which was possible at that time. Johannes ELISON (Junior) directed that should he die before his wife and also childless, then his wife must make certain payments to his parents and brothers and sisters and their children. To his brother Jacob ELISON who served him faithfully must be given 600 Florins, and after the death of his wife and not before shall be given to the testator's sisters and brothers the two portraits of his father and mother.

After the death of his father Johannes ELISON Senior, Johannes ELISON Junior and his wife made a fresh Testament on the 7-03-1646 before the same Notary.
Payments were directed to his mother Maria BOCKENOLLE, sisters Anneke ELISON and Josina ELISON.
Also to Josijntge ELISON the daughter of Dr. Theophilus ELISON 1000 Flemish Pounds, and to 'MARIKEN ELISON' 150 Carolus Guilders.
The extract does not make clear whether MARIKEN is also a daughter of Theophilus.

Two further Wills were made on the 18-10-1652, and the 3-01-1653, but carried the same instructions, according to de GROOT.
Dr. Theophilus ELISON (1609-1676 married Euria VICTORIJN after the death of her husband in 1642.
He eventually brought his wife and stepdaughter Sarah VICTORIJN to Norwich, and had a daughter Mary ELISON, who as I have indicated married one Peter (PRIME) - surname not very clearly written in his will.

Jacob ELISON. born 1612-1615? (He was still a minor in 1634), assisted his elder brother Johannes ELISON with his business.
He married Hillegant VICTORIJNUS, another daughter of Jan VICTORIJN in 1645, and also became a Deacon of the Dutch Church, Amsterdam in 1650.

Anne ELISON, married Daniel DOVER of Ludham in Norfolk, and inherited the paintings of ELISON Senior and wife. Her daughter Mary DOVER, born 1654, married into the COLBY family of Great Yarmouth within which the pictures remained for some 150 years.

Francois ELISON married Grietje VICTORIJNUS, another of Jan VICTORIJN's daughters in 1654, and of the other sister Josina ELISON, little has been discovered.

Could she be the one??? Possible birth date 1612??? (her mother maybe 32 yrs old), if Maria's child Sara was born 1654, she would've been ~42yrs old - TOO OLD!!!???
Maybe Jacob or Francois had a daughter Maria???

Have also found a Robert ELISON? buried 1658, Mitford &Launditch District (Weasenham All Saints or Upper Register) ..no idea where he fits in?????

The earliest information on the Ellisons that I have been researching for several years puts them in Howden, Yorkshire, England in 1525. Thomas (Thomae) Ellisse was born there and was married to a Janett (last name?). they were married in 1550 in Howden and had several children. Their grandchild, Lawrence Ellison came to America around 1632 and established a long line of Ellisons that, in time, dispersed around the country. There is some indication that the family originated earlier in Scotland but I do not have good information to confirm that.

Chuck -

I just saw your message from last March. It looks like you may be referring to Lawrence Ellison who came to Boston MA around 1630 from Colne/Lancashire/Blackburn/York, England.
He was married to Mary Rishton/Rushton/Riston and died in Hempstead, Long Island, NY. What information do you want?
