WHY WE'RE HERE

Why TWICCIN

We believe it is intolerable that highly experienced IT experts have a hard time to find a job. It took us a long time to find a reason for it. Well, keep searching, there isn't any.

We are convinced there are no rational arguments against employing mature IT experts 1). They are just as good, but different, as others 2). Same is valid for many of the other bright minds that are somewhat hindered to land their place in the technology domain.

Everybody talks compassionately about it, but too little do anything. We wondered why. And then did it ourselves.

That's TWICCIN.

OUR SERVICES

TWICCIN's services

TWICCIN provides clients with flexible capacity from highly experienced and extremely well educated IT experts to solve capacity problems in coding and software development.

We achieve this through:
A factory-like approach to off-premises ('remote') development, conversion, sup-port, translation and testing of software;
Possibilities for cost saving because of the offered price/quality and price/performance ratio, compared to local competition

We build software

Collectively we bring thousand years of IT experience. Together we build awesome software for inspiring clients

We change the approach to software development. This changes the perception on working with remote teams. Agile teams on multiple locations, working in a laboratory like setting, with advanced tracking and monitoring in place.

Think, inspire and create.

Social responsibility

We help implement Social Responsibility Policies and related HR processes. We provide means to work with seniors without creating precedents or facing opposition.

We celebrate and showcase out client's contributions to lasting change on events, in publications, in lectures and appearance in media.

Become part of our success and join as an expert, or call us to discuss client possibilities.

HOW WE WORK
How we work

We build teams that build software.

We work with people who fit in with TWICCIN. People who have a background in IT and who have the capacity to change as rapidly as the client's demand. Permanent education means all our people are up-speed with cloud, agile, Java, SQL, Azure, HTML, CSS, PHP, Node, AWS, Jira, Spring, most frameworks and so on. No one-trick-ponies.

Capable and cooperative. Daily stand-ups, daily builds, permanent tracking of performance. No management fuzz, but the collective powers of qualified engineers, designers and developers. In our labs, these people work on the client's systems, in permanent communication with their peers and the client staff. Remotely, with equal mindset amongst each other.

And if there is an opportunity, we'll not stand in the way of our people to join a client's workforce *)

OUR SERVICES

Senior IT experts

TWICCIN just started, so we need to be very selective.

Our current focus is only on unemployed experts 'of a certain age', either already unemployed or facing outplacement.

Sorry, no exceptions.

If you belong to these, check out if you qualify to join us [here]

Great clients

Already from the start, we got a lot of attentions of clients who understand the benefit of working with seniors.

Do you want to belong to those who understand that just making software will lead nowhere? That software needs to work and that errors have impact on real people? That requires the experience that comes with maturity.

Working together

Collectively we bring a thousand years of IT experience. Together with our clients we build software, using today's and even future ways of collaboration.

Co-working people actually work on the same product: we at the coding, the client at the behavior. That takes a different bread of developer. And that is exactly where seasoned experts are better at.

Labor market for senior IT experts

In the Netherlands, the position of veterans and other people with a distance to the labor market is unmistakably poor, both in general and when compared to abroad. This country unfortunately has a bad name and very bad position in this area compared to (EU) countries, frequently ending up as last in the rankings:

  • 2016 OESO data on participation of 55-64s: NL ranks last of 35 countries;
  • 2017 UWV statistics: the share of long-time unemployed aged 45 to 75 is 65% (mid 2016);
  • Dutch employers have the most negative view on knowledge development, labor costs and productivity of veteran employees compared to 8 EU countries;
  • Dutch government defines 'elderly and senior people' as 'over 50' and there is a tendency that people start to believe in it;
  • Even worse: '40+ are the pariah of the labor market';
  • But in contrast (and for financial reasons only), the age until people are expected to work is raised from 65 to 67.

The result is a situation in the IT labor market that is summed up by these observations:
  • The 'BV Nederland' is suffering from capacity shortages in all areas of technology and IT is most affected by this;
  • The Dutch economy is missing 2.2-3.3% of its gross domestic product because of resulting lost opportunities, amounting to an astonishing € 16B per year (minimum);
  • Authorities estimate that within a decade we face a shortage of 20,000 to 80,000 IT experts, making the above even worse (depending on source);
  • Recruiters have over 15,000 independent specialists in their files that are hard to employ, most of senior level and with management background (January 2017);
  • 7600 unemployed IT experts, of which 36% over 55, of which 53% have a higher education (HBO+); UWV data, May 2017 (these two numbers are likely to overlap to some extent).

Why senior IT experts are even better than juniors

There are no good reasons why highly skilled, intelligent and well-educated senior IT experts have bad access to the labor market. The causes are mainly of subjective nature and some outdated regulations that we may need to part with.

From literature we learn that:
  • Senior workers are mentally healthier and more stable than average employees;
  • They have more - but different - knowledge, skills and experience;
  • Have better social skills and good understanding of consequences of their actions;
  • Have better insight in the environment of complex problems, not the problem alone;
  • Are less career- and self-centered;
  • Are more tolerant;
  • Do not take irresponsible risks;
  • Have better self-insight;
  • Are more loyal;
  • Are willing to exchange their experience for knowledge;
  • Are just as tech-savvy as younger and even better in using multiple devices;
  • And - in sharp contrast with popular believe - experienced seniors are more adaptable to change than juniors if the circumstances are right.
