Where medicine meets technology
My research line aims
at developing intelligent, non-invasive, diagnostic
methods in the areas of respiration (sound,
impedance),
hearing, voice, and
rhinology. Read what the
world press writes on my work.
I use and develop advanced signal-processing and
pattern-recognition techniques, for example artificial neural networks.
Knowledge shared is knowledge multiplied
A pleasure shared is a pleasure multiplied. Passing on science to the
world in a comprehensible way is an enjoyable challenge.
My
writing, presenting and teaching activities
(Dutch and English) include conference presentations, scientific
publishing; academic teaching, mentoring students; popular-science writing, journalism, editorial
work and PR activities.

Other research
Small science with big impact
Surgery on atoms? Today's name for this field is nanotechnology.
It's going to have a major impact on medicine and other fields, and
needs to be carefully kept watch on. I participated in an EU-project on
nanotechnology assessment.
The invisible world of atoms is really fascinating: look at my
Dr research in
atomic physics to see
how single atoms are visualised (photos
of equipment,
samenvatting
met beeldverhaal).
Road pricing
For the Dutch governments project
Road Pricing
('Rekeningrijden') I carried out statistical analysis and
modelling of the antenna system of this ambitious system-to-be.
