Guillermo Lago is het componerende alter ego van WiIlem van Merwijk. De eerste stukken die Lago schreef waren bestemd voor het programma (en later de CD) Tangón. In dat concertprogramma onderzocht het Aurelia Saxofoon Kwartet met bandoneonist VIlle Hiltula en pianist Juan Pablo Dobal de concert- tango ná Astor Piazzolla. Voor dit programma koos van Merwijk het pseudoniem 'Guillermo Lago', een Nederlandse naam vond hij minder passend. En 'Guillermo Lago' bleek wonderwel te passen bij de muziek die van Merwijk maakte, waarop hij besloot onder deze naam verder te componeren.
