The VAP 4 was made in France by Société ABG in Paris and sold in the Netherlands by Boogaard's Motorimport in Nijmegen.
The first VAP4's had a Zenith carburettor and later on they were replaced by Viel-ABG carbs because they had an automatic choke.
Before the VAP4 there was the VAP 3 (see fotopages) which was introduced in 1946 and had a magneto ignition.
The VAP4 was placed beside the rear wheel and drives the bike trough a chain.
Later the VAP company build several types of engines that were used by many (french) manufacturers.
The Velovap was one of the few complete mopeds that was build by VAP (they only built engines before), ans was one of the reasons that Velosolex had to come up with an automatic clutch in their engines, because the Vap had one. A picture of my VeloVap is in the section
"geen hulpmotor, geen bromfiets".
