Making a sculpture

Before carving, I make a small clay sculpture.

I chose a white alabaster stone.

White alabaster is a beautiful, almost etheric material and easy to carve.

A saw, chisel and wooden mallet are used to carve the stone in a rough shape.

A sandbag is necessary to prevent breakage of the stone.

After sanding and polishing you can apply a wax.

Now the alabaster has a milky transluscence.
