The engine is a nice 3500 GT engine, dismantled for overhaul with all the major parts as visible on the pictures. Not every nut and bolt is there, but all essential ones are.
The block is very nice with its original main bearing caps, its internals and also the head studs are not corroded. The liners will of course need a bore to an oversize. All essential parts are there, like 5 timing gears and chain, crankshaft gears, drive for ignition distributor, oil pump with gear, cam shafts with mounting pieces for timing gears, oil tubes, breather case, front pulley, flywheel, etc. Essential nuts and bolts (like for mounting the head, main bearing caps, cam shaft caps, valve springs and special washers, etc) are also present.
The crankshaft has never been grinded (original sizes 76,1 mm main bearings, 57,1 mm con rod bearings) and the cam shafts are redone and look like ready to use. The con rods are a matching set with numbers 1 through 6 on both sides of the con rods and even on the nuts.
The cylinder head looks nice with minor corrosion in the coolant areas, one front bearing place is repaired well with a cupper inlay bearing. The head is complete with 8 original (matching head #) camshaft bearing caps. The head is complete with cam covers, end-caps (= 2 caps with Maserati logo, 1 rev-counter-cable connector and 1 oil filler neck with cap), valves, springs, washers on top of the springs with the 'half moons', studs, etc. The height of the head measured through the head stud opening is 113,15, to my knowledge a new head is 114 mm, to give you an indication on how often is was grinded.
Alternative cylinder head at reduced costs:
I do have an alternative cylinder head which could be swapped instead of the head described above. It will need more work, but in my opinion it can be overhauled well. With this alternative cylinder head, I am willing to offer the engine for a lower price. Please ask if this interests you.
The head is complete with 8 camshaft bearing caps, but they are not original to this head. So the line bore needs to be checked and maybe corrected. There has been done some welding to the head too, visible in the pictures. With some work and a last re-grind, this head should be well to use. I will include the parts as used valves, springs, washers on top of the springs with the 'half moons'. Normally parts as valves, springs, valve guides and tappets are renewed, they can be bought new. The height of the head measured through the head stud opening is 113,25, to my knowledge a new head is 114 mm, to give you an indication on how often is was grinded.
This head came from a running engine many many years ago that needed an overhaul. Because there was some corrosion and another better head (came then with engine 101-1446) then was available, it was swapped. If you look at engine 101-1446 there is no corrosion visible, so its original head was probably also without corrosion. Much later the engine 101-1446 and this head changed owner and then it was welded to improve it. I bought engine 101-1446 and this head from this last owner and he told me the welding was done by a professional (without further proof). I had in mind that the original head gasket only consists of 6 cupper rings and a rubber covering only the outer border of 1 cm. So only these spots are important for sealing on the block. That’s how I bought it and it was intended for my own car.
Alternative crank and flywheel at reduced costs:
I also have an alternative crankshaft which will need custom bearings: its main bearings are 74,92 mm (5th undersize or so, non-standard), con rod bearings are 55,92 mm (5th undersize or so, non-standard).
Also an alternative flywheel in average condition due to pitting, it will need regrinding.
With this alternative crankshaft and/or flywheel, I am willing to offer the engine for a lower price. Please ask if this interests you.
Alternative set of con rods at reduced costs:
And last I have an alternative set of con rods, where 2 will need some work or changing to make them identical to rest.
With this alternative set of con rods, I am willing to offer the engine for a lower price. Please ask if this interests you.
